Custom Embroidered Hats vs. Custom Patch Hats

Custom patches and direct embroidery are the two most popular ways to customize hats. Both of these options provide unique advantages that give you a wide variety of options when designing your custom hats.

Benefits of Direct Embroidered Hats

Direct embroidery involves stitching a design directly onto a hat. Since the design is stitched directly to the hat, there is no problem with having free floating elements in your design such as text. Direct embroidery is also extremely durable due to the fact that the entire design is sewn into the fabric.

Benefits of Custom Patch Hats

Since custom patches are made independently from the hats, there are many more material options to choose from. Some custom patch options include leather patches, embroidered patches, woven patches, PVC patches, and printed patches. One of the biggest benefits of custom patches is that there are good options available for designs that are more highly detailed than what could be captured with direct embroidery.

Which Option is Best for Your Design?

If your design has very small details, small text, or gradients, then custom patches are likely the best option for you. If your design is relatively simple and/or has free floating elements, then direct embroidery could be the best route.
